Teapot Cake

This cake was work from the start! I enjoyed making it but I burned out my hand mixer in the process. I’ve had this $12 hand mixer for over ten years and it finally lost a battle to a cake batter, but I have to say Betty Crocker hand mixers are truly durable.

The bottom layer is a cake recipe I came across online called “White Wedding Cake”. I haven’t found a really good recipe for white cake yet, although I did like this one, I got mixed reviews. It wasn’t bad or anything it just didn’t have that “POP” of flavor that I wanted everyone to experience. The layered frosting consisted of white and dark chocolate.

And then there was the teapot! UGH with a smilie face… I started with a round metal mixing bowl and I baked my batter in that. It worked ok but after I had two half rounds I was a little perplex on how I was going to carve a teapot out of it. I went a little “carve crazy” and before you knew it my idea of a standing teapot turned into a pouring teapot. Only because I sliced a little too much off of one side but it worked out and I’m pretty happy with the end result.

The handle and the spout was a different story and that became Paul’s task. Since I make my fondant from scratch it never really hardens like the store bought fondant does. Paul somehow sculpted both attachments with a straw for reinforcement and of course he worked his magic and it came out wonderful.

The teapot was a lemon cake that I’ve made for years and is truly a favorite. I paired it up with a cream cheese frosting and it was a HIT!

My mom and her customers that came out for her 1 year anniversary loved it and that’s all that matters in the end!

Nintendo Cake

WOW! What a challenge! We just delivered the bear cake and worked on this one all day long. We worked on this creation until 2 am while my sister-in-law laughed and laughed.... but we did it. Alix even helped with the control, she loves her uncle. Paul had the task of cutting out all the lettering for the front of the Nintendo box and as usual he did a great job. I have to work on my corners a little but it still came out great. This was a fun cake indeed.

The Birthday Bear-riffic Cake

The finished product! I was very stressed making this cake and my pink fondant wasn't cooperating. Was it the room temperature, I don't know. It gets really hot when I'm baking so I turned the air on to cool things down a bit. Look at the bear! It's perfect! Paul sculpted the bear out of melted down tootsie rolls, it came out fantastic. I was really proud of him. This cake must of weighed about 40 pounds. The bottom tier was chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting and the top tier was white cake with chocolate fudge frosting. Paul helped us load this Grizzle Bear in the car and Alix (my daughter) and I delivered it to the grandparents house not to far from our home, that was nerve racking. The grandparents seemed to be pleased with the appearance of the cake... now just have to wait for our client to tell us what she thought of the cake.

Continuing to be Happy Ever After

So after chatting with my cousin a bit on what he would like, this is the finished product. It consists of 2, 2-layer, 6" round cakes made from crushed strawberries. The filling was also made from fresh strawberries. Paul molded the bear with fondant and it came out soooo cute! I hope they like.

The Guitar Cake

I just did the baking and making of the cake and fondant. Paul was the master mind behind this cake! The amp was made out of 5 layers of chocolate cake and the amp was cut out of 2 batches of brownies.

My First Fondant Cake

This is my first "fondant" cake ever. It was a lot of fun to create. In the photo it actually looks brown and beige but it's really black and white, dusted with gold luster dust. The bow on top was really neat to make and I was quite proud of myself.
